Ringworm is a fungal infection, it is not caused by any worm. A red scaly, itchy patch occurs on the skin if you are affected by ringworm. It may occur on the skin, nails, and even the scalp. Here is a list of few home remedies for ringworm.

1. Garlic

Garlic exhibits high anti-fungal properties. It is used to treat most of the fungal infections. The anti-fungal properties present in garlic helps in curing ringworm. When honey is used along with garlic it becomes more effective against ringworm infection.

Peel the garlic cloves and crush it with the help of the mortar until it reaches paste-like texture.
Add the garlic paste to the bowl and mix it with the olive oil and honey, stir well.
Apply the mixture to the affected areas.
Cover with a gauge and leave for two hours.
Remove the gauge and wash the area using warm water.
Repeat this for at least two weeks.

2. Apple cider vinegar

ACV is known for its anti-fungal properties. When it is applied to the infected area, an acidic environment will be formed. The fungus that causes the ringworm cannot thrive in that acidic environment. Regular application of apple cider vinegar to the infected area can eventually lead to complete healing of the infection. Apple cider vinegar can also be used on pets since it is non-toxic.

Clean the infected area and gently dry.
Apply a few drops of the apple cider vinegar to the cotton ball.
Place the cotton ball onto the ringworm.
Apply three times a day.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera gel is a great natural solution for a wide range of skin conditions. It exhibits anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial properties. Thus it is a very effective remedy for several skin conditions, including ringworm. Regular use of The Aloe Vera gel will allow complete healing of a ringworm infection and it also soothes the itchy, irritated skin.

Cut off a section of an Aloe Vera leaf. You will find the Aloe Vera gel inside.
Take the gel and apply directly to the ringworm.
Leave the Aloe Vera on your ringworm for twenty to thirty minutes.
Wash off with water.
Repeat three times per day.
Combine 4 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass spray bottle.
Shake the bottle well.
Spray on the affected area.

4. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil exhibits excellent antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. It is an essential oil extracted from a Tea Tree. Using tea tree oil topically cures many skin conditions like a fungal infection. The anti-inflammatory properties in it help to relieve redness and itchiness associated with fungal infections, like ringworm.

Take the cotton ball and dab a few drops of the tea tree oil.
Apply the cotton ball onto the infected area.
Repeat this method three times a day.
You can add warm water with the tea tree oil if your skin is sensitive.
Both methods can be used for the duration of four weeks.


5. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is very effective and also safe for curing ringworm. It contains some powerful anti-fungal agents like Lauric acid. These anti-fungal agents found in coconut oil are very helpful in killing the fungus causing the infection. Since coconut oil is very safe and allows gentle healing it can be used on pets also.

Apply a small amount of the coconut oil directly onto the affected area.
Massage gently for three to four minutes
Repeat this treatment three to four times per day
You can also apply the coconut oil just before you go to bed and leave on overnight.
Continue this treatment for up to three weeks.

6. Grapefruit seed extract

Grapefruit seed exhibits powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral that enables to heal a wide range of health issues. When grapefruit seed extract is used topically it soothes the affected area and also helps in preventing the further growth of ringworm. You can also consume grapefruit seed extract; It helps to boost the immune system.

Combine the water and with the drops of the grapefruit seed extract.
Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and apply to the ringworm.
Apply two or three times each day for two weeks until the ringworm is healed.

7. Powdered licorice

Licorice powder exhibits anti-fungal properties that help to kill the fungus. Topical application of licorice paste will help cure the ringworm infection day by day.

Mix the powdered licorice and the water in the small pot.
Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil.
Turn down the heat and simmer for fifteen minutes.
Remove from the heat and let cool until at room temperature.
Apply the mixture to a cotton ball and place onto the ringworm infection.
Apply it three times a day until the ringworm is healed.

8. Oregano oil

Oregano oil contains a highly effective anti-fungal agent called thymol. This anti-fungal agent helps to cure the ringworm infection effectively. Oregano oil can be combined with a variety of other essential oils, this will help to heal and soothe your skin.  It can be applied topically or consumed internally.

If you want to use it topically, follow these steps.

Combine all the oregano, rosemary and thyme oils into the bowl.
Stir gently until well combined.
Dip the cotton ball into the mixture and apply to the ringworm.
Apply this three times a day.

9. Lemongrass

Lemongrass is a very good natural anti-itch agent. If you consume lemongrass tea regularly, it helps to reduce the symptoms from the inside. It can also be used topically to help relieve the symptoms and cure the ringworm gradually.

Add the tea bag to the hot water and let steep for three minutes.
Remove the teabag.
Drink the tea.
Apply the tea bag directly to the infected area for ten minutes
Alternatively, you also use lemongrass oil with a carrier
Apply the oil mixture directly on the infected area twice a day.
